Behavior Expectations:
Rules
1. Show respect for yourself, others, and your environment.
2. Be in the classroom and seated by the end of the tardy bell. *(A note from another teacher will not excuse your tardy; you must come to class at the appointed time)
3. Stay focused and follow all directions the first time they are given.
4. Use appropriate language in school.
5. Students must remain seated until the dismissal bell rings.
Consequences
Each infraction will result in an appropriate consequence ranging from student teacher
Conference, parent phone calls, and referrals to the appropriate administrator.
Quality of work
1. Students are expected to follow all guidelines when completing assignments for class; failure to complete the work in the assigned format will result in a major deduction in points. Each chapter will have a set of questions that will need to be answered. Students will have time at the end of class to answer the questions; if they do not finish in class then it is to be completed for homework. All of the answers must be written and answered in the student’s own handwriting and is due no later than the beginning of the next class.
2. If a student misses a news reports the student is expected to make up the day by watching any news broadcast, outlining no less than four major stories with three supporting facts for each. The following format is to be used:
I. Title of first story.

b. Fact
c. Fact
d. Fact
II. Second story followed by a-d facts.
III. Third story followed by a-d facts.
IV. Fourth story followed by a-d facts.
3. All assignments are due on or before the assigned due date, work turned in one day late will receive a 25 point deduction in points and a 50 point deduction for any day after that. If you are absent on the due date due to illness than the work is due upon the students return to class. Prearranged absences such as field trips, sporting events and trips require that the work be turned in before the absence. Students are encouraged to check the web site often for assignments and due dates as well as senior class information.
Academic Expectations:
Your grade will be computed as follows:
Test/Essays/Projects = 45%
Quizzes/Current Events = 25%
Classwork/Homework = 30%
Make-up Work:
Hampton City School Policy is: Students must make up missed work due to absences. Arrangements for making up work must be established with the teacher upon the return of the student. The class work must be made-up within a specific time period equaling one-day make-up per one-day absence. In case of a pre-arranged absence such as a field trip the class work is due before the absence.
Exam Exemption Policy:
STUDENT INCENTIVES FOR GOOD ATTENDANCE FOR CREDIT-BEARING COURSES WITH FINAL EXAMS With parent/guardian approval, a student who maintains an 80% or higher average and who misses no more than two (2) days* during a semester or a 90% or higher average and misses no more than t hree (3) days* during a semester, may be exempt from the semester exam. NOTE: Any student who is exempt may opt to take the semester exam without any adverse impact on the semester grade. NOTE: Any student who has been suspended during a semester shall not be exempt from taking the semester exam for that s emester regardless of the grade earned. * Any student absence resulting from the student’s observance of a religious holiday shall not be counted as an absence for purpose of this policy, provided the parent/guardian of the student notifies the building administrator/designee in writing in accordance with Board policy. This notification shall specify: a. the date(s) of the absence(s); b. the name of the religious holiday; and c. that the absence is due to the exercise of the student’s bona fide religious beliefs.
Materials:
Chromebook, Textbook, Notebook, Paper, Pencils, Blue or Black pen, and a thumb drive.
Passes:
Each student will receive 2 bathroom passes and 2 other passes at the beginning of each 9 weeks. Students who have used all of their passes, have lost or forgotten to bring their pass to class must go to the restroom before or after class. The other passes are for the students to use to go to guidance or the library.
Grading Scale:
A = 93-100
A- =90-92
B+=87-89
B =83-86
B- =80-82
C+=77-79
C =73-76
C- =70-72
D =64-69
F =Below 64
Government class is not an SOL class, but each student must pass each semester of Government in order to graduate on time.
